Hastings & Hastings Applauds Arizona Lawmakers for Reversing Cuts to Technical Education

By Sarah

During the last legislative session, Arizona lawmakers cut $30 million from the budget of high school career and technical training education programs. These are programs which have historically met with success, boastings a graduation rate of 98 percent, in comparison to a graduation rate of 72 percent for traditional high school programs.

On Thursday, February 9, Arizona lawmakers came to an agreement to reverse a majority of the previously agreed upon cuts. The result will be an injection of $28 million back into the Arizona education system.

Hastings & Hastings applauds the Arizona lawmakers who worked hard to find a way to restore the previously made budget cuts. The restoration of $28 million will bring new life to many programs which were facing the prospect of closing within the next few years. The restoration of funding would affect 14 school district know as Joint Technical Education Districts. Currently, there are nearly 100,000 high school students enrolled in programs in the Joint Technical Education Districts.

Hastings & Hastings stands in full support of many measures which works towards securing a better future for Arizona residents. Proper education is necessary for securing a bright future. Technical training teaches hard skills which can be used to help students find jobs after school. Professional training is typically in steady fields with stable job markets.

Hastings & Hastings comments that the reversal of the propose budget cuts is an optimistic and inspiring investment into the future of Arizona.

In order for proposal to come into effect, it must pass through both the Arizona state Senate and House. It will then appear on the desk of Governor Ducey who has stated that he is “eager” to review the bill.

“Education is essential. Creating a fair and balanced budget is very difficult. There are countless factors to consider. As long as our Arizona lawmakers take a careful, reasonable approach, I believe we can achieve positive results,” said David Hastings, the founder of Hastings & Hastings.
