Dixie McCurley of Trusted CFO Solutions Chosen as Mentor

Atlanta, GA – March 7, 2016 – Dixie McCurley Chosen as Mentor for the Georgia State University Entrepreneurship & Innovation uVenture Challenge Team Presentations & Awards

Always an advocate for helping and serving others in the Accounting profession, Dixie recently had an opportunity to become a Mentor during the GSU uVenture Challenge sponsored by GSU Entrepreneurship and Innovation Institute and J. Mack Robinson College of Business.

The brain trust behind this program includes: Dr. Richard Welke, Entrepreneurship & Innovation Institute, Director; Bronwyn Morgan, Associate Director; Michael Jordan, Associate Director and Jackie Davis, Assistant Director.

The ENI vision is to have GSU seen as a global leader and trusted resource in entrepreneurship and innovation culture, experiences and curriculum; to inspire students to seek careers/lifestyles as successful entrepreneurs, intrapreneurs and innovators.

The uVenture challenge is a competition for seven student teams (5) students per team to commercialize a real product/technology that a sponsoring company intends to bring to market. The challenge is to find the best business model and market strategy to create customer demand and market viability.

The challenge took place February 12th (Kick-Off); February 13th (Team Work Day); and, February 19th for the Team Presentations and Awards at GSU J. Mack Robinson College of Business.

As a mentor, Dixie worked with her team, “BetaFish” to help them generate and vet the best idea, approach and strategy. From the seven teams, February 19th, the top two winning teams were awarded cash prizes and the best team went on to compete at the 2016 TYE University Entrepreneurship Competition at Georgia Tech and ATDC February 20th Qualifying Round.

Dixie’s team came in first place winning the uVenture Team Challenge!

Immediately they regrouped and updated their pitch to compete the next day, Saturday February 20th at the 2016 TYE University Entrepreneurship Competition, the largest inter-university competition across Georgia and jointly sponsored by TiE Atlanta and the SBDC at the University of Georgia.

Dr. Michael S. Jordan, Associate Director of ENI said this about Dixie, “Dixie was amazing to watch. She was in the trenches with her team the entire time and Saturday as well at TYE/U. This extraordinary effort on her part is most appreciated by her team and ENI. At the end of the day, it is this kind of effort that makes the difference.”

In its three-year history, over 40 teams, 125 students, 15 Georgia universities and 50 mentors have participated in TYE University. Dixie’s team (BetaFish) from Georgia State University qualified in the 2016 competition and goes on to competeApril 16th at the final competition as part of the TiECON Southeast Conference in Atlanta, hosted by TiE Atlanta.

Dr. Paul Lopez, Co-Chair of TYE University presented the opportunity to the six qualifying teams represented the evening of February 19th.

Special thanks to:
Jason Aldrich, Executive Director of GSU Robinson College of Business Career Advancement Center for looking at how best Trusted CFO Solutions, Dixie McCurley, President/Co-Founder & Steve Gross, Visionary/Co-Founder could leverage their experience in business and the accounting and finance profession with GSU students and faculty.
