Annual meeting provides common forum for developers and users sharing an interest in applying the IEC Common Information Model (CIM) standards
RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA, MAY 17, 2016: The CIM Users Group is hosting its annual European meeting in Amsterdam, Netherlands, 1-3 June 2016. The CIM Users Group, a subgroup of the UCA International Users Group, provides a forum for those with a common interest in applying the IEC 61968, 61970, and 62325 CIM (Common Information Model) standards across the utility enterprise. The CIM is an abstract information model that provides data understanding through the identification of the relationships and associations of the data within a utility enterprise.
Using CIM to Create and Support the Data-Driven Utility
Utilities are now collecting and storing vast amounts of data regarding their operational systems with the goal of using that data to improve reliability, service metrics, customer satisfaction and asset utilization. Many existing IT systems lack a standardized approach to data management, resulting in barriers to interoperability and integration. Many utilities are adapting a data-driven architecture for enterprise integration based on the IEC CIM standards as the means by which they can turn this data into information that can be more easily used to improve the utility enterprise’s performance.
European CIM Users Group Meeting
The three-day European CIM Users Group meeting starts on 1 June 2016 with the CIM University. This full day of educational sessions provides a learning forum for novices and experts to share information on technology basics, best practices and technical resources. The formal European CIM Users Group meeting will take place 2 to 3 June 2016. This two-day meeting offers attendees a friendly forum to network, learn and share information on a wide range of CIM related topics, including utility projects, new technology developments and product implementations. More information on the meeting can be found at http://meetings.cimug.org/2016/amsterdam/.
“This annual meeting of European CIM users is expected to be a well attended event by utility executives throughout Europe that share a common interest in using CIM to deliver compatible information technology systems,” said Terry Saxton, chairman, CIM Users Group. “Amsterdam is centrally located in Europe, making it a convenient and affordable location for our meeting.”
