15-year-old Tristan Wiener’s smart lock has already been funded by more than $5,500 by backers through the crowdfunding website IndieGoGo. Wiener has developed the world’s most intelligent smart lock, called Boltivate, which allows the user to monitor, lock and secure their home from anywhere in the world with a wifi signal and an app on their phone. “I wanted to create a door lock that gave people more control over their door at home, no matter where they are in the world,” said Wiener. “There was a clear need in the market, and my goal was to create a smart lock at the great price, that worked with any existing lock, and that was really easy to use.”
Wiener took his smart lock idea to the crowdfunding website IndieGoGo where it’s already reached funding of over $5,000. At a funding level of just $35, backers will receive a Boltivate of their own when they go into production in November 2016.
The lock is controlled through the Boltivate app on the owner’s smartphone. Owners can lock, unlock, and grant access to others through their device mobile device from anywhere in the world where they have a wifi signal. The app sends a signal to Boltivate’s secure servers, which in turn send a signal to the device to lock or unlock the door. Boltivate requires no installation and works with any existing lock. Users will simply place it over their lock and sync the device to their app.
Users will receive notifications on their phone when the lock is unlocked and can check the status of each door controlled by Boltivate right on the app. Boltivate will also offer a special Lockdown feature, which will automatically lock all doors controlled by Boltivate and offer an option to contact local police.
