APIW, Inc. (the Association of Professional Insurance Women) announced that Dame Inga Beale, Chief Executive Officer of Lloyd’s, has been selected as this year’s recipient of the APIW Insurance Woman of the Year Award. A cocktail reception and award ceremony honoring Ms. Beale will be held on Thursday, July 13, 2017, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Battery Gardens inside Battery Park in New York.
In announcing this year’s award, APIW President Susan Zdroik said: “APIW is proud to bestow this honor on Inga Beale. She is a wonderful role model for women in crafting a career that is varied and challenging in order to reach the highest level of leadership as Lloyd’s CEO. Her exceptional leadership, as well as her support for women, are some of the fine qualities that APIW looks for in the recipient of this highly prestigious honor. She has portrayed exemplary professionalism in all of her endeavors and is highly respected in the insurance industry and beyond.”
Inga Beale joined Lloyd’s in January 2014. Previously she was Group Chief Executive of Canopius, a prominent Lloyd’s managing agent. Prior to that she spent four years with Zurich Insurance, including a period as Global Chief Underwriting Officer. She was Group CEO of Converium Ltd, the Swiss mid-sized independent reinsurance company and, while there, she led a major turnaround of the business before it was acquired by SCOR in 2007. She started her career as an Underwriter with Prudential before spending 14 years in a variety of international roles for GE Insurance Solutions. She is a member of the UK Government’s Financial Services Trade and Investment Board and the London Mayor’s Business Advisory Board. In July 2016 she also joined the Board of the Chartered Insurance Institute. She was made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in the 2017 New Year’s Honours.
The APIW Insurance Woman of the Year Award, first presented in 1976, recognizes an exceptional woman who has achieved prominence in her profession and has made significant contributions to the insurance industry. This year, APIW is proudly celebrating its 40th Anniversary.
