KANSAS CITY, MO (May 26, 2016) – Blue Rhino (www.BlueRhino.com) has teamed up with Operation BBQ Relief (www.OperationBBQRelief.org) to create special recipes for Memorial Day – the official opening of the grilling season and the second biggest grilling holiday after the Fourth of July – or any day of the year.
Blue Rhino, the number one brand in propane tank exchange, is a major sponsor of Operation BBQ Relief, a nonprofit disaster response team consisting of volunteers from competition barbecue teams who serve hot grilled meals to displaced families and emergency personnel in areas impacted by natural disasters.
The recipes are original and created by expert chefs who compete in grilling competitions around the country. They are adaptations of recipes used at deployment sites. “We feed people in disaster areas and that includes our own volunteers before we get out there and take care of everyone else,” said David Marks, COO, Operation BBQ Relief.
Before grilling up these delicious recipes for family and friends, be sure to have a fresh, ready-to-grill propane tank on hand if using a gas grill. Blue Rhino tank exchange locations are conveniently available at over 45,000 retail locations nationwide. The tank can be securely and conveniently transported with Blue Rhino’s Tank-A-Tank Tote, which is held in place by a seat belt to keep it from tipping or rolling around.

Partnering to Feed the Displaced
Blue Rhino became a major sponsor of Operation BBQ Relief this year. “This partnership is such a natural one for us,” said Tod Brown, CEO of Blue Rhino, the number one brand of tank exchange and marketer of a wide array of outdoor living products. “Blue Rhino certainly plays an important role in good times in backyards, but when bad times come, people can need our products even more. Our sponsorship will help Operation BBQ Relief’s expert chefs cook great meals and provide warm places for Americans whose world has been torn apart by Mother Nature.”
Under their partnership agreement, Blue Rhino supplies Operation BBQ Relief with propane, which is used on all deployments for both cooking and heating. Blue Rhino also provides products such as firepits, grills, grilling tools, and accessories for use on deployments and in fundraising. In addition, Blue Rhino Operation BBQ Relief information can be found on Blue Rhino’s website, social media channels, and in other marketing vehicles.
Founded in 2011 in the wake of the devastating tornado in Joplin, Mo., Operation BBQ Relief has since provided more than 700,000 meals during nearly 30 deployments in 18 states. The organization has 3,500 registered volunteers who travel to hard-hit areas to barbecue and serve food to hungry people. In 2015, co-founder Hays was runner-up on the Food Network show, “Chopped,” in Grill Masters Season 2, and talked about Operation BBQ Relief.
Blue Rhino helps create special moments in backyards, patios and homes across America through its family of brands, which includes Blue Rhino, the number one brand in tank exchange, an impressive line of innovative, premier barbecue accessories and outdoor lifestyle tools by Mr. Bar-B-Q® (www.MrBarBQ.com), and fire pits by Endless Summer®.
