Davison, MI – Ireland’s Dream, a local non-profit organization started by Davison resident     and physician Dr. Megan Strauchman,  is hosting a 5k fun run/walk at Jack Abernathy Park in Davison on September 17, 2016. This run/walk will include the exclusive Cerebral Palsy Swagger, a short race for those of all ages living with cerebral palsy, where they are welcome to ride in a stroller, crawl, walk, run, use a gait trainer, crutches, wheelchair, get carried by their incredibly strong and amazing parents, sing silly songs, simply be amazing, or anything else they need to do to cross the finish line! The Cerebral Palsy Swagger is FREE! Please arrive early to register for the Swagger. Line up for this event will be at 8:30 am. Of course, they are always welcome to register for the 5k! There will be bubbles galore, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes, AND a prize for best pajamas! So, join us and wear your best (family appropriate, of course!) dreamland attire!

Cerebral palsy is an often devastating physical movement disorder, affecting 8,000-10,000 babies per year. It is caused by a lack of oxygen during the birth process most commonly, resulting in hypoxic brain injuries. Currently, over a quarter of a million people in the US suffer from cerebral palsy, commonly referred to as CP. Cerebral palsy causes serious lifelong physical impairments. Children with cerebral palsy are often confined to arm crutches, walkers, or wheelchairs. Ireland’s Dream is a nonprofit foundation dedicated to help these children get access to non-conventional medical treatments. These treatments are often effective, but not covered by most insurances, thus making them unattainable for a large portion of these children. Ireland’s Dream seeks to provide these services to children with cerebral palsy, without incurring out of pocket expenses if they qualify financially. A large amount of anecdotal evidence suggests that these non-conventional therapies may aid in the repair of the original brain injuries.

Registration for the Race for the DREAM is now available at Active.com. Ireland’s Dream is seeking any and all donor support, fundraising help, and networking opportunities to help reach its goals. For more information on Ireland’s Dream, visit their website at IrelandsDream.com, or find them on Facebook page at facebook.com/irelandsdream. You can also or call Dr. Strauchman at 810-694-3576 for more information on how you can be part of something big.
