Universal K-9, a specialist in K-9 training services, has today announced approval from the VA to accept GI Bill benefits to pay for the company’s Dual Purpose Handlers Course.
San Antonio, Texas June 30 2016 – Universal K-9, one of the nation’s most respected companies specializing in K-9 training for police, bomb, drug and protection dogs, has today announced VA approval to accept GI Bill benefits. Universal K-9 will begin accepting GI Bill benefits for tuition for the company’s Dual Purpose Handlers Course.
There are several GI Bill programs currently available for military members. These include the Montgomery GI Bill for active duty military members (MGIB-AD or Chapter 30), the Montgomery GI Bill for Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR or Chapter 1606), the Reserve Education Assistance Program (REAP or Chapter 1607) and the Post-9/11 Veterans Education Assistance Act of 2008 (the “new” GI Bill, or Chapter 33).
MGIB-AD benefits are available for to veterans for a full decade after leaving active duty. MGIB-SR benefits are available to Reservists for the full duration of their enrollment in the Reserve. REAP benefits are available for 10 years after an honorable discharge from the Selected Reserve, and the Post-9/11 GI Bill offers eligibility for benefits for 15 years after leaving active duty.
The Dual Purpose Handlers Course is a 2 week program that will also provide a free dual purpose dog to active law enforcement officers. After successfully completing the course, handlers will have the vital skills and education necessary to handle police dogs nationwide. Not content to help veterans reenter civilian life by teaching a trade and accepting GI Bill benefits, Universal K-9 is also providing free dual purpose dogs to all active law enforcement individuals who sign up for their 2 week dual purpose handlers course using their VA Education benefits. All applicants will need to submit the following documents for enrollment: Form DD-214 history of military record, VA Form 22-1990 application for VA Education Benefits and all prior transcripts for any secondary education. This is a certificate based program designed to provide entry level employment for veterans.
